There have been hundreds of great defensive players in the NBL. However, there are some considered to be greater than others. Below are five of the best defensive players in the history of the NBL:

Darnell Mee

Darnell Mee is an American-Australian player who was born in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was selected to play for the Golden State Warriors during the 1993 draft. Before he was selected to play for the NBL, he played basketball at Western Kentucky University.

Darnell Mee has played for several teams, including the Canberra Cannons, Gravelines and the Adelaide 36ers. He was named the Best Defensive NBL player from 1999 to 2001 and 2005 to 2006.

Leroy Loggins

Leroy Loggins was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He played in the NBL from 1980 to 2001. Loggins was drafted to play for the Detroit Pistons in 1980. Before the draft, he attended Fairmont State University. He has played for the Brisbane Bullets and West Adelaide Bearcats. He was named the NBL Most Valuable Player 1984, 1986 and 1987. He was also named the NBL Defensive Player Of The Year from 1987 to 1990.

Phil Smith

Phil Smith was born in Adelaide, South Australia. Not only is he a star basketball player, but he is also a four time Olympic winner. He made his debut in the NBL in 1982, and his final game was played in 1995. Smith was named the Defensive Player Of The Year 1982, 1983, 1988 and 1989. He was also named the Grand Final MVP in 1988.

When Smith retired from basketball, he spent time coaching. He was the head coach of the Adelaide 36ers 1998 to 2008.

Damian Martin

Damian Martin was born in Gloucester, New South Wales. He plays for the Perth Wildcats and has been named the Best NBL Defensive Player of 2013. Martin also received those titles in 2011 and 2012. Before he was recruited to play for the NBL, he studied at Loyola Marymount University. He also played on the basketball team there.

Adam Gibson

Adam Gibson was born in Launceston, Tasmania. He plays for the Adelaide 36ers. He made his debut in the NBL in 2005. Before he played for the Adelaide 36ers, he played for the Brisbane Bullets, South Dragons and Gold Coast Blaze. Gibson studied at the Australian Institute of Sport from 2004 to 2005.

He was named the Best NBL Defensive Player of 2009. His team also won a NBL championship in 2009. Furthermore, Gibson was a NBL All-Star in 2012 and was an Adelaide 36ers Co-Player’s Player in 2013.
