Anzac Day is a national public holiday in Australia and New Zealand, and is commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I and also to commemorate the soilders who fought in France and Belgium. Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tonga.
The traditional service commemorates the 94th anniversary of Australian and New Zealand troops landing at Gallipoli during World War One.
On that first day, 2,000 Anzacs were killed or wounded.
The Anzac ceremony also pays tribute to all Australians who have served their country in war.
Chaplain Collin Acton from the Royal Australian Navy delivered the service at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra as the crowd stood silently in the dark.
"Today we remember the courage and patriotism of men and women who have resisted oppression and fought for freedom, we thank you for the gift to us and for their fine example that they have set," he said.
"The story of ANZAC touches a deep part in us all. It is a story of sacrificial living and giving and loving."
Organisers say 20,000 people, including Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Governor-General Quentin Bryce, were there for the service.
Ms Bryce will address the ANZAC day national ceremony later today.
More are expected to join the Anzac Day march and national service at 10:30am.
War Memorial director Steve Gower says the ceremony is a chance to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have fought and died for Australia.
"Also, pause to think about what's known as the Anzac spirit, that still has relevance to this day: mateship, not letting your friends down, stoic acceptance of your circumstances, high spirits, bravery and courage.
"So it's a very Australian ceremony, the dawn service."
Mr Gower says increasing numbers of people are attending the service, with 30,000 making the early start last year.
"It's full of rich Australian ambience," he said. "In the darkness you gather, as the dawn starts you see with whom you're standing.
"Sometimes you get raucous flights of galahs and sulphur crested cockatoos flying across."
He says there will be a national commemorative ceremony later this morning, but the dawn service is particularly significant.
"The significance goes back to 1915 on the 25th of April, when the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps went ashore in the pre-dawn darkness on the shore there at Anzac Cove, or what came to be known as Anzac Cove," he said.

My hubby and I like to watch The biggest Loser Australia
The most significant change to the Biggest Loser in 2009 is the introduction of couples. This year we have 10 couples, 20 contestants in total, competing and being eliminated as a couple. The dynamics of the game completely change. We have mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, friends, brothers, sisters, work mates and in-laws. The added support of a loved one means increased confidence, fiercer competition, better results and much more game-playing.
This is the new Movie of Eric Bana that my friend hubby is raving about..the hubby who loves car and his passion is to fix and put an auto performance parts on some old cars, reckon that this is such a good movie ....
What if you were a Hollywood movie star with an obsession for cars and racing? You would probably read every script with even the tiniest link to the subject matter, in the hope that you could tell a great car story of the likes of “Grand Prix”, “Le Mans” or “Mad Max”. Then one day you happened to open your garage door and sitting there, right in front of you, was the film you had been searching for.
This is what happened to Eric Bana and this time around, the co-star is his very own Ford GT Falcon Coupe- THE BEAST. Eric realized the story was in fact, about him, his first car, a lifetime of ownership and a lifetime of friendship. He set about documenting his own 25 year long love story.
A simple tale of one man’s ongoing relationship with his very first car.
After years of precious restoration, Eric and his 3 closest friends, decided to enter the car into one of the most gruelling and dangerous motor races that exists: The Targa Tasmania Rally. This would be a personal Everest for both man and machine, until…on day 4 of the race, tragedy strikes. The man who was hell bent on trying to convey how much he and those around him loved “THE BEAST”, had just destroyed it.
Eric has now unwillingly cast himself in his own real life drama. We follow him from inside the race car to the surreal world of the red carpet. This compelling true story follows Eric’s progression as a car lover, and as a person conflicted by what he has done. The personal and social pressures mount up in the face of rebuilding a car that means so much to him. Along the way Eric seeks guidance and wisdom from not only the inner sanctum of his 3 life long friends but also Jay Leno, Jeremy Clarkson, and Dr. Phil.

The other day I was watching the The Girls Next Door, also known as The Girls of the Playboy Mansion, is an American reality television series broadcast on the E! cable television network. The series was created by executive producer Kevin Burns and Hugh Hefner, founder and editor-in-chief of Playboy magazine. The series focuses on the lives of Hefner's three girlfriends who live with him at the Playboy Mansion: Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson. Hefner is often on the show along with various Playmates and other celebrities.
With all the reality shows looming around,,,, this is one of my fave,,, I like Kendra Wilkinson ,, the sporty one,,, and all three girls moved out of the mansion,, and Kendra will start a new reality show called "Kendra" and engaged to NFL player Hank Baskett. and I'll definitely catch this show on E ...
